Escaping from a cold winter to a sunny tropical vacation in Puerto Vallarta is a wonderful way to take a break from dreary weather. But while you are enjoying yourself on the warm Mexican beaches or around a gorgeous resort pool, you need to protect your skin from sun exposure.  We offer some tips for safe sun on your Puerto Vallarta vacation.

Bronzed skin on the beach

There are two kinds of sun rays that you should consider before a day outside. The first, UVA rays, cause premature aging of the skin and can contribute to cancer. The second, UVB rays, are the rays that will cause sunburn, cataracts over extended periods of time and are associated with Melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer. Getting a tan does not protect you skin from either UVA or UVB rays.

But with easy precautions, you can enjoy your time in the sun without worry. Remember to apply your sunscreen liberally anywhere that your skin will be exposed to the sun at least 30 minutes before going outside.

For vacation sun exposure, a sunscreen with an SPF 30 is the minimum you should use to block UVA and UVB rays. Reapply your sunscreen several times throughout the day, especially after swimming or sweating. And, of course, wearing a sun hat, glasses and a beach cover up will help protect you from sun exposure while allowing you to look stylist poolside.

And for those who can’t resist the look of bronzed skin on the beach, consider getting a spray tan or a professional application of self-tanner prior to your Puerto Vallarta vacation. But remember, your skin will still not be protected so you should remember to use sunscreen while on holiday.

Puerto Vallarta boast a wide selection of shops that sell a variety of sun protection protects to best suit your needs so that you can enjoy your vacation in sunny Banderas Bay while taking the best care of your skin.
