A Hidden Puerto Vallarta Gem: La Playita
Author: Robert Nelson
In the Conchas Chinas area of Puerto Vallarta lies the lovely seaside restaurant La Playita. Seating is literally suspended above a quiet beach, rock outcroppings and tidal pools, where, during winter, it is possible to observe Humpback whales breaching or spouting. The view is unobstructed and the feeling secluded.
On Saturdays and Sundays, La Playita features a busy, fully fledged all you can eat brunch buffet as well as dinner. During the week it is much more tranquil and all three meals are offered. Breakfasts consist of many US style dishes as well as Mexican fare. The lunch and dinner menus include a wide assortment of delicious choices including pastas, salads, soups, sandwiches, hamburgers, seafood, chef specials and Mexican dishes.
After dining al fresco, explore the rocks and tidal pools, swim and snorkel in naturally protected areas, stroll along the beach or bask in the sun. Even though La Playita seems in a world of its own, it is possible to walk north along the ocean to Playa Los Muertos, the main beach of “Old Town” Vallarta.
La Playita is located on the ground level of the Lindo Mar Beach Club Hotel at the southern end of Puerto Vallarta and is an easy city bus or taxi ride from anywhere in Vallarta. An elevator transports visitors from the 7th floor street entrance to a magic world below.
Before and after photos line the walkway from the elevator comparing Old Vallarta to present day. Emerging from the rear of the hotel one is struck by the restaurant’s setting, its backdrop of sheer beauty and the scope of Vallarta’s Banderas Bay.
