If you stay in Old Town Puerto Vallarta near Aquiles Serdan and Cardenas, you''ve no doubt seen children picking up trash around the neighborhood every Saturday. Ever curious for details? Local restaurant and bar Que? Pasa sponsors a weekly event for the neighborhood children every Saturday called “The Trash Brigade” or “La Brigada de Basura.”

The Trash Brigade was formed in May of 2010 to help take responsibility for the cleanliness of our environment. The children meet every Saturday at 11:30 AM in front of Que? Pasa at 625 Aquiles Serdan. Small groups of about 5 children each collect trash in the area with an adult guide for about 30 minutes, then they return to Que? Pasa for free hot dogs or ham sandwiches, jamaica drinks, candy, coloring, games, prizes, and other fun activities.

The Que? Pasa staff tune the restaurant''s flat screen TVs to cartoons for the children. Also, the brigade members receive free t-shirts that say “La Brigada de la Basura,” which you can see proudly worn by the children of the neighborhood throughout the week. Additionally, Que? Pasa also has installed a trash can in front of the restaurant with the brigade''s logo on it to encourage cleaner streets during the week.

All children are welcome to participate in the weekly trash pick-up. Que? Pasa is always looking for adult volunteers to help supervise groups of children, as well as new and fun ways to reward the children for their service to the community.

If you are interested in donating your time or perhaps toys, games, or other treats for the brigade, contact Que? Pasa at 322-223-40 -06.
