First Whale "Ballenarte" Conservation Festival in Puerto Vallarta

To mark the start of the whale season, the environmental group "Ecology and Conservation of Whales A.C.” (ECOBAC) announces the first Whale (“Ballenarte”) Festival, which will be held January 8-11, 2014. This event will take place in Puerto Vallarta in our beautiful Banderas Bay, which is visited every year by humpback whales and other marine mammals.

The objective of this event is to contribute to the protection and conservation of natural resources in Mexico, and especially the humpback whale in Banderas Bay. It also seeks to encourage the exchange of knowledge and information to benefit the conservation and protection of species among the general population.

In this 1st Ballenarte Conservation Festival, attendees will enjoy a boat parade, photo exhibition, conferences, documentaries, bike rally, fundraising dinner and much more.

ACTIVITY PROGRAM

DAY 1) WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2014 

5:30 p.m. Authorized whale watching boat parade and grand opening at Los Muertos pier.

6:30 p.m. Tour Operator Awards, for best behavior and navegation practices during the whale watching, involving conservation and protection of the humpback whale. 

Exhibition of the work of art Human Blue Whale by renowned photographer, Patricio Robles Gil, at the Juarez parking lot. 

Dinner with a cause at Restaurante NU Global Tapas Bar and Café Des Artistes Restaurant. 

DAY 2) THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2014

6:30 p.m.The Humpback Whale and projects in Banderas Bay Conference. Given by Biologist Astrid Frisch Jordán, at Hotel Secrets Resorts & Spas. 

6:30 p.m. Projection of the documentary Oasis Marino (Marine Oasis) about the Sea of Cortes at Jardín del Pulpo (Octupus Garden Café), Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nay. 

7:30 p.m. Whale photo and art exhibit, introduction by Dr. Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus.

Dinner with a cause at Restaurante NU Global Tapas Bar and Café Des Artistes Restaurant. 

DAY 3) FRIDAY, JANUARY 10, 2014

6:30 p.m. Projection of the documentary Oasis Marino about the Sea of Cortes. Introduction by Dr. Luis Medrano, Direftor of the Marine Mammal Program of UNAM. Malecón 169 Col. Emiliano Zapata, Romantic Zone.

6:30 p.m. Humpback Whale Conference by the Biologist Roberto Moncada, from the ITBB, Marine Mammals Investigative Group.  Av. Estaciones No. 1099 Col. Oriente, Bucerías, Nayarit.

Dinner with a cause at Restaurante NU Global Tapas Bar and Café Des Artistes Restaurant. 

DAY 4) SATURDAY, JANUARY 11, 2014 

8:00 a.m. Bicycle Rally for kids at Marina Vallarta.

11:00 a.m. At the end of the race, kids will  make an actual size whale with their bodies and a picture of the human whale will be taken from the lighthouse.

7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Mexican Fiesta Charity dinner at Lazaro Cardenas Park. Price per person $200 pesos, does not incluide beverages.

9:00 p.m. Raffle for all those who attend the closing ceremony. 

Closure of the Festival with dignitaries from conservation circles. 

The event is organized by Ecología y Conservación de Ballenas A.C., in partnership with the Vallarta Centro Association.
