Beach Volleyball during PanAmerican Games
Puerto Vallarta’s sandy beaches will soon house the beach volleyball tournament as part of the XVI PanAmerican Games Guadalajara 2011.
The volleyball matches will take place October 16th and 22nd in the newly built PanAmerican Beach Volleyball Stadium, located at just 8 meters above sea level and with the capacity of seating up to 2,000 spectators.
A total of 64 athletes (32 men and 32 women) will participate in the preliminary, semifinals and final matches from the following teams: Brazil, Cuba, Ecuador, United States, Argentina, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua and of course, Mexico.
Several prominent figures will attend the competition, including the President of the International Volleyball Federation, Jizhong Wei; President of the PanAmerican Volleyball Union, Ary de Silva Graca Filho; President of the Mexican Volleyball Federation, Ismael Acosta García; the Technical Volleyball Delegate, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz and the Competition’s Director, Laura Beatriz Almaral Palafox.
Mexico is sure to do well during this year’s matches. We placed 5th in overall medals last year in Rio de Janeiro; 18 gold, 24 silver and 31 bronze medals, totally 73 honors.
Puerto Vallarta is currently the second most important economic zone in the state of Jalisco, and Mexico’s third most important port. An estimated five million people visit the destination on an annual basis.
