It was a full house at the Arches on the Malecon in Puerto Vallarta, which witnessed a great presentation of the martial art form Capoeira, performed by the "Axe Capoeira" group.
Axe Capoeira is directed by Andre Garcia, who originates from the city of Guadalajara and has more than 10 years of experience in the sport including a long stay in Brazil practicing and learning the roots of this martial art.
Capoeira is a cultural discipline which through the centuries has evolved socially and is now considered a sport in Brazil as well as an activity for physical and intellectual development.
It is practiced in a circle is called a "roda”, the Portuguese translation, and is accompanied by percussion instruments called a Battery which consists primarily of 3 small harps, tambourines and 1 2 drums.
Capoeira combines the development of strength, balance, reflexes and acrobatic skills And the use of the Portuguese language, percussion music, dance and rituals of Brazilian folklore add a cultural element to the martial art.
Unlike other martial arts, each school or group has a style, a philosophy, a ranking system, a way of seeing and practicing Capoeira that is different. Although based on the same movements each group has its way of particular manner of executing them as directed by their instructor.
