The director general of the Tourism Trust of Puerto Vallarta, Guillermo Ochoa Ohem, who participated in the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid reported that Puerto Vallarta is achieving progress in seeking to diversify its tourism markets and that new markets are showing an interest in exploring Mexico.
He said the European market is very important for Mexico but success will depend on the combined efforts between travel agencies, airlines and tour operators.
"As you have heard repeatedly, Mexican product diversification needs to occur in markets such as Europe and the United Kingdom, from which the largest numbers of European travelers are coming to our country."
He stressed the importance of being present in the minds of consumers in the UK, Spain, Germany, France, and Italy as diversification is the cornerstone of growth proposals for the region.
He further stated that “2012 is brings the usual challenges to be faced, but it looks promising."
The markets are gradually beginning to stabilize and re-acquire the levels they had in earlier periods and it is important to continue to source new markets and work on increasing air connectivity, which is of the highest priority for the destination, and strong efforts must continue in that direction.
"Right now we are working to enable better air connectivity and improve our international tourism by highlighting the many different attributes of Mexico.”
He said that Jalisco has distinguished itself over the years as being an active entity that has made good use of the platforms that the Tourism Board of Mexico has offered, as is the case of FITUR.
On joint work with Nayarit said it is very interesting, as Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, are complementary but different areas.
"It's a daily joint effort because we want for the world to perceive us as a united destination, the Bay of Banderas."
