Colors, art, aromas, flavors and sounds are what give life every Saturday to Colonia Emiliano Zapata, at the Farmer’s  Market where local farmers offer fantastic products to locals and visitors, bringing a wide range of products for all tastes including crafts, vegetables and food prepared by local entrepreneurs.

The market was started three years ago under the initiative of a group of people interested in promoting products that originate in Puerto Vallarta in a friendly atmosphere, making the market an important cultural attraction for visitors and residents to learn about the diversity of items offered in the region.

Charlotte Semple, founder and director of this project, reported that this idea came with the goal of "having a space for small entrepreneurs, artisans and local producers, so they have a place to sell their products." Currently involved are a total of 73 producers and 6 non-profit organizations, who work under the concept of 'Do it, Cook it, nurture it and sell it', selling directly from the producer to the consumer to "boost the economy of families in the region, the families of Puerto Vallarta."

This market is open to the public, who can come with the family and even their pets to enjoy good music and find a nice variety of crafts, vegetables, fruits, painting, pottery, prepared foods to eat on the spot or take home, chocolate, coffee, flowers, cheese, organic eggs and endless innovations that delight the eyes, ears and palate.

This market is located on Calle Pino Suarez between Plaza Lazaro Cardenas and Calle Basilio Badillo. It operates every Saturday from 9:30 am until 2 pm through to the last Saturday in May.

The project is also open to new producers who want participate by submitting a request and if feasible, they will be incorporated into this season or be assigned a place next year.

"We are constantly looking for new participants to have here, of all types, especially now our search is for more producers of vegetables, fruits and such, but hey, it’s open to any interesting proposal for something that could help the market because our variety gains a lot of attention, but we are always looking for people who want to participate.”

This Farmers Market has the support of the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta mainly from the Municipal Tourism Bureau and the Neighbours and Entrepreneurs Association of Colonia Emiliano Zapata.
