A week-long craft fair featuring mostly Huichol arts started last February 17th at Hidalgo Park in Puerto Vallarta with 15 families presenting their works to tourists and locals. During the early days of the fair there was much interest on the part of foreign tourists in purchasing something to take home.
The Huichol which are at Hidalgo Park belong to the community of San Andres Cohamiata located in the highlands of Jalisco.
Huichol work is interesting because the work is a connection of the mind to the object, and each craft is created without any drawing of plans. The most difficult crafts to create are those working with yarn, such as bracelets and necklaces, and it will take six or seven hours to create a bracelet two inches thick.
