Puerto Vallarta Announces "Jalisco Reciclón 2012"

The Assistant Director of Ecology, Salvador Gomez, announced at a press conference the details about the upcoming "Jalisco Reciclón 2012", an event involving more than 40 municipalities within the state and which aims to collect unused electrical appliances that have accumulated in homes, businesses or offices.

Such devices represent health and environmental risks because they contain elements such as lead, mercury, nickel, etc., which when not properly recycled often end up in forests, reaching rivers or lakes which can lead to contamination without our food supplies, which is thought to be one of the main causes of diseases such as cancer.  That is why Ecology Branch has joined in this municipal campaign for the second time, which seeks to collect as many of these products to be brought to the company REMSA for proper recycling.

The first edition of this campaign in Puerto Vallarta collected about 5 tons of these products, which is why this second edition invites the general public to dispose of all appliances such as computers, telephones, modems, decoders, cd players, appliances, microwave ovens, and blenders that are no longer useful.

Importantly, televisions will not be accepted in this collection as the high level of lead in these devices requires more careful handling. Salvador Gomez will try to hold another campaign to collect this type of equipment at a later date. If you have questions about which devices will be accepted, please contact the Ecology offices at 2248606, 2250678 or 2259658.

This massive collection will be held on Saturday, February 25 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at three points in the Puerto Vallarta: the Main Square in Pitillal, the Public Services Office in Los Sauces and the Agustin Flores Contreras Sports Unit.

There will be a special route to gather computer equipment from cyber cafes in the city that can not carry equipment to one of the three points, so those interested are invited to contact the above phone numbers for further details.
