25th Anniversary of Vista Vallarta: Championship Golf Meets Destination Travel

From November 13 to 15, 2026, Puerto Vallarta will host international golf enthusiasts for the landmark 25th Anniversary Tournament at Vista Vallarta Club de Golf. This milestone celebration merges elite sports competition and camaraderie with sweeping panoramic views of the Sierra Madre Mountains and Banderas Bay.

The celebratory weekend opens with a welcome reception on Friday, November 13, followed by two rounds of tournament play on Saturday, November 14, and Sunday, November 15.

In alignment with the venue's commitment to social responsibility, a portion of every player registration fee will support Fundación Canica, a local non-profit organization providing critical care and resources to pediatric cancer patients and their families.

A Quarter-Century of World-Class Golf Heritage

This silver anniversary commemorates a legacy that began in 2001 with the debut of two signature championship courses.

The Nicklaus Design course, crafted by Jack Nicklaus, opened in April 2001 on the property's upper elevation, delivering magnificent views of Puerto Vallarta, the marina, and Banderas Bay. The Weiskopf course, designed by Tom Weiskopf, debuted on November 1, 2001, carving through tropical rainforests, natural streams, and dramatic ravines.

The distinct topographies of both layouts provide contrasting playing conditions, requiring strategic adaptability from golfers of all skill levels.

Global Stage: Hosting the WGC EMC World Cup

Vista Vallarta's pedigree includes hosting major international competitions. In December 2002, the Nicklaus course welcomed the World Golf Championships – EMC World Cup.

Japan's team of Toshimitsu Izawa and Shigeki Maruyama claimed victory at 36 under par, finishing two strokes ahead of the United States team of Phil Mickelson and David Toms. A late double-bogey on the 72nd hole by the American squad secured Japan's historic win in Pacific Mexico.

Champions Tour History on the Nicklaus Course

Professional tournament play returned in 2006 when Vista Vallarta hosted the Champions Tour's Puerto Vallarta Blue Agave Golf Classic.

Morris Hatalsky earned the title at 9 under par, edging Scott Simpson by one stroke to capture his first victory of the season and solidify the club's standing among premier golf destinations.

An Established Pro-Am Tradition

Recent iterations showcase the continued growth of the anniversary tournament.

In 2024, the 23rd edition featured a two-player best-ball (low ball) format, awarding Gross and Net divisions along with hole-in-one prizes valued up to $50,000 USD, a new Mazda vehicle, and luxury resort stays.

The 24th edition in 2025 further reinforced the tournament's reputation for competitive play and high-end hospitality.

Vista Vallarta: Setting the Standard for Golf in Mexico

Vista Vallarta Club de Golf boasts a rich history decorated with prestigious national and international accolades, cementing its status as an unmissable destination for golfers worldwide.

In the Golfers’ Choice 2026 rankings by GolfPass—driven entirely by authentic golfer reviews—both of the club’s championship layouts secured top spots among the 25 best public golf courses in Mexico. The Weiskopf course earned a podium finish in third place, with the Jack Nicklaus Signature course following closely behind in fourth.

The venue consistently receives critical acclaim from premier industry authorities, including Golf Digest Mexico, Golfweek, Golf Advisor, and Top 100 Golf Courses, and stands as a nominee for Mexico's Best Golf Course at the 2026 World Golf Awards.

These prestigious honors highlight Vista Vallarta’s role as a cornerstone of sports tourism in Mexico, showcasing Puerto Vallarta as a top-tier destination for golfers in search of master-designed courses, elite competition, and striking natural beauty along the Pacific coast.

Championship Golf Meets Destination Travel

November presents an ideal window for sports tourism along Mexico's Pacific coast.

Vista Vallarta Club de Golf delivers a comprehensive resort experience featuring two 18-hole championship courses, a full-service clubhouse, fine dining, and practice facilities. Participating in the anniversary event combines world-class sport with meaningful support for Fundación Canica.
