Historically, over one third of Canadians choose one of 14 destinations for their winter get-aways, and many of these locations involve warm weather and a beach. FlightNetwork.com decided to trace the places Canadians have been going for their winter vacations by tracking their flights to their favorite places.
Placing 14th on the list is Puerto Vallarta (and the Riviera Nayarit), with its warm sun, beautiful beaches, amazing sunsets, and traditional Mexican feel. Whether it is the 6,000-ft. Malecon (sea walk) and its local artisans, street performers and restaurants, or the cobbled streets of Old Town, the warmth of Puerto Vallarta’s people, culture, and climate draws many Canadian tourists to this wallet-friendly place. If you add to that the delicious gastronomy and world-class accommodations, and it is easy to see why this city made the list.
It is probably the long, cold Canadian winters that lead so many visitors to look for a place which specializes in sunny outdoor experiences. Puerto Vallarta offers top-notch surfing, snorkeling, boat cruises, fishing, and a huge variety of outdoor adventures, activities, and eco-tours. Within close distance to Vallarta there are several beautiful and historic Mexican villages to explore a little further off the beaten track, such as San Sebastian, Mascota, Yelapa, or El Tuito. For more information about Puerto Vallarta, check out the official website at visitpuertovallarta.com.
The other cities mentioned in the Top 14, in ascending order, are New York City, Paris, Riviera Maya, London, Ft. Meyers, Miami, San Francisco, Tampa, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Orlando, Las Vegas, and Ft. Lauderdale.
