Celebrate the Day of the Dead with tradition and color in Puerto Vallarta

The Day of the Dead is one of the most representative traditions of the Mexican culture. Its origins come from the pre-Hispanic times in which the natives gave the death a regeneration meaning and a new travel for the deceased. This is how the tradition of placing altars and offerings to honor the ones who left was born.

Puerto Vallarta invites you to honor the ones who are no longer with us, and to enjoy folk dance shows, typical music, scenic arts and the great parade “The Death is Alive”, a unique experience.

The architecture of Puerto Vallarta’s streets acquire a special atmosphere through the decoration of catrinas, pricked paper (papel picado) and altars, thus we suggest you to take a walk through its avenues.

Celebrate these Mexican traditions attending concerts, film exhibits, art, conferences and more at the Downtown. Fill yourself with the Mexican spirit that distinguishes Puerto Vallarta!

Lázaro Cárdenas Park and the Main Square are the places in which you’ll find events and altars exhibitions in honor to the deceased. And following up this tradition you can’t miss the tasting of the traditional “dead bread” or “pan de muerto”, as well as many other Mexican specialties.

Take a look into the Municipal Pantheon, the oldest in the city. In this place families honor their dead and gather together to decorate their graves, bring them flowers, offerings and remember them with their favorite songs.

And wait for the Grand Finale and enjoy one of the most anticipated events: the great parade “The Death is Alive”, in which charros associations, ejidos, schools and sports teams participate dressed up as catrines, accompanied by decorated floats, making a route that reaches the iconic Los Muertos Pier. It is a “must-see” show!

So, there you are! Come and live one of the most colorful and representative celebrations of the Mexican culture in Puerto Vallarta. Prepare your ideal plan and live a memorable Day of the Dead.
