The purpose in celebrating this day is to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
Tourism is for Puerto Vallarta its main source of income. We all depend on the population and service providers to continue improving every day.
To understand the importance of tourism for our country, we just have to evaluate the statements made by Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, president of Mexico, earlier this year. He mentioned that the tourism industry accounts for 9% of the country´s GDP, representing the third largest source of foreign exchange in Mexico.
More than 4,000 million pesos will be devoted to promote the tourism industry in our country.
Ever since Puerto Vallarta was portrayed as one of the top tourist destinations in our country, it has received a significant financial contribution and is currently ranked second at national level.
Trying to understand Vallarta without tourism is impossible, as our location is ideal and offers a wide range of activities. Today we can find hotels, restaurants, spas, golf coursesand ecotourism activities, than though not directly linked to tourism, could not have been possible without this lucrative industry.
2011 is considered the year of tourism in Mexico, and the goal for our country is to position itself by 2018 within the top five destinations worldwide.
In regards to Puerto Vallarta, the work of all of us will be reflected as being the choice of destination for people visiting Vallarta that experience the quality of attention and care given to every one of our visitors.
