For those photography lovers, especially panoramic views, there is a hidden spot in Puerto Vallarta where you can catch some of the best angles of the Historical Center and the majestic Banderas Bay.
This is the lighthouse located on Matamoros street, it is very easy to get there: If you are on the Boardwalk, go uphill at Mina street towards the mountains, across the street Matamoros take a few steps to the left and you'll find this beautiful site which also has some history, here below we tell you a little about it.
It was built in 1932 and for more than 40 years it was in charge of guiding the ships coming into the bay emitting a welcoming light, until it ceased operations in 1978. Can you imagine how much has the view changed since back then? Recently in 2006, it was rescued and re-opened so the public could appreciate our beautiful city.
From here, you can capture the essence of romantic downtown, as it is located near the famous Gringo Gulch with its beautiful homes and tree-lined alleys. In addition, the roofs of the houses provide that picturesque charm that so many locals and tourists fall in love with.
Many have been inspired by this fantastic view, since it has been the birthplace of several works of art that have been around the world showing Puerto Vallarta’s unique beauty from the eyes of national and international painters and photographers.
Undoubtedly, the best time to visit the Lighthouse is at sunset when you will see how the last rays of sun paint the clouds, the sea and the city skyline; if you're observant, you will have a good time pointing out all the iconic downtown locations as seen from the distance.
