HORSEBACK RIDING IN PUERTO VALLARTA

One of the most fun ways to explore the beaches and jungles of Puerto Vallarta is on horseback, and there are many towns, tours and places that offer great horseback riding experiences in Banderas Bay and the surrounding region.

On the beaches of Yelapa and Quimixto, beautiful southern beaches accessible by water taxi from the new Los Muertos Pier in Puerto Vallarta, have many rancheros (cowboys) renting horses that will take you through the jungle and up to a spectacular waterfall for swimming and lunch. The horses are very docile and even if you have never ridden before, you will quickly feel comfortable.

Rancho El Charro is a great horseback riding tour just 15 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta that takes you on a guided ride through environmentally protected land in the Sierra Madre. Riding along a gorgeous river, you will find agave plants, avocado trees, wildlife and truly beautiful scenery throughout. The staff will pair first time riders with gentle horses and have more spirited horses for experienced riders.

Or for those who truly love horses, take an easy day trip to Mascota, located a little over an hour and a half from Puerto Vallarta. This little town is famous for producing some of the best horses in the state and the country and there you will find many ranches that rent horses for trail rides through the pretty farmland and countryside.
