LA CORBETEÑA IN PUERTO VALLARTA

Puerto Vallarta is situated on Banderas Bay, one the largest bays in the world and our Pacific waters are an amazing place to explore while you’re visiting our destination.

38 nautical miles from Puerto Vallarta is La Corbeteña, the corridor to the best big gamefishing in Banderas Bay. The waters in La Corbeteña are filled with baitfish, making it a top destination for the serious sport fisherman. 

Snappers, groupers, and amber jacks are all in abundance here as well as huge yellow fin tuna. Fierce fighting blue and black marlin as large as 1000 pounds have been pulled from La Corbeteña, as well as striped marlin, wahoo, sharks and dorado (also known as mahi mahi).

Captain LuisBlanco of Vallarta Sportsman Fishing Charters, who won the 57^th AnnualPuerto Vallarta International Sailfish and Marlin Tournament 2013, recommends a 10 hour charter to get the best fishing experience out of La Corbeteña.

It’s also an amazing area for diving, although Sue Keevil of PV Sea Dive in PuertoVallartawarns that it’s a spot only for advanced divers due to very strong currents and sometimes rough seas.

However, she also adds that La Corbeteña has an abundance of marine life and beautiful coral with gorgeous schools of small fish, and a site depth of 80-100ft.  For those needing to brush up on their dive skills, PV Sea Dive offers PADI Advanced Diver Certification as well as many other certification and specialty courses.
