OPEN AIR ART

More than 15 sculptures created by some of the most famous Mexican artists, (among them Ramiz Barquet, Sergio Bustamante and Alejandro Colunga), create an amazing public art space along the Malecón. Some of the sculptures represent the life of important historical figures, others reflect the culture and life of Puerto Vallarta and some are simply the ideal backdrop for those unforgettable holiday photos.

Manuel Lepe (1936 – 1984) a painter and a local from Puerto Vallarta and renown internationally, created works in the Naïve style based mainly on the landscapes around the city. An icon of the art world in Puerto Vallarta, Lepe captured the light, the simplicity and the beauty of the city before it became a tourist hot spot. You will find his art around the whole city in many of the art galleries and on the beautiful mural located in the town hall.

The Cuale Cultural Centre is a lively music and art centre that provides lessons for the general public on musical instruments, singing, painting, sculpting, theatre and photography.

The Los Mangos Library is one of the most important cultural and artistic centres in the city. Here there are a variety of classes like dance, drama, music, literature and foreign language workshops, as well as film cycles and other important events. The Cecatur theatre has a “Drama Billboard”, a proposal from the independent art scene which involves local and foreign artists that meet in the city. It offers drama shows as well as dance and music every Friday and Saturday at 8:00pm.

The Xiutla Ballet, originally from Puerto Vallarta, has more than 300 children and youngsters that take part in its intensely emotional shows, both at a local and an international level. They turn up for free every Friday at the“ Plaza Lázaro Cárdenas de Olas” (Lázaro Cárdenas de Olas Square), at 7:30pm and on Sundays at Los Arcos de Malecón at 8:00pm.
