PUERTO VALLARTA, 5TH PLACE IN WORLD CLASS CRUISE SHIP TOURISM

Carlos Gerard, ship agent in Puerto Vallarta, announced that according to the world ranking by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) issued during their annual conference, Puerto Vallarta is in 5th place as a cruise ship destination.

The analysis carried out in 2014-2015 by the FCCA, the highest corporate authority in the world relating to cruise ship tourism, places Puerto Vallarta among the first few positions in that which refers to passengers satisfaction. Regarding passengers’ expectations, recommendations to family and friends as a vacation spot, and as to the variety of activities to see and do at the destination, Puerto Vallarta is positioned among the first places, ahead of ports such as St. Maartens and the Bahamas.

According to the Puerto Vallarta Port Authority (API) report, issued the first week of October, 2015, Puerto Vallarta had so far welcomed 321,454 passengers arriving on cruise ships, an 24% increase compared to the same period in 2014. At this point 80 cruise ships had come to this port, and by the end of 2015, a total of 136 cruise ships docked in Puerto Vallarta. The schedule for 2016 expects the arrival of 170 cruise ships.

The port terminal has the capacity to dock ships weighing more than 70 thousand tons and carrying approximately 2,500 passengers. It is the only port terminal in Mexico with a green area larger than 2.5 acres, with an infrastructure devoted 100% to tourism. There are taxis, guides and chauffeur services, as well as money exchange, an artisan market, restaurants, ticket sales for bay boat tours and other facilities for visitors.

The port has the capacity to simultaneously dock up to 3 cruise ships with the highest of specifications. The terminal is a mere 5 minutes from the airport, facilitating embarking and disembarking, “origin-destination”.

Puerto Vallarta has been launched and positioned in the world cruise ship industry, thanks to the continuous promotion with cruise ship lines and their agents, and the collaboration of local authorities and tourism organizations.

A great effort is made to promote the quality of services thus attracting more visitors to the port, as well as increasing the tourist offerings to continue positioning Puerto Vallarta as a world leading cutting edge tourist center.
