PUERTO VALLARTA TURNS 98 AND NEVER LOOKED BETTER

Puerto Vallarta came one year closer to its Centennial when it celebrated its 98th year as a Municipality this past 31st of May which also marked the 48th year of the destination as a city. May Fest is the name of the week-long celebration preceding the destination’s big day and includes dance and music presentations, Mariachis, a presentation of Sabores de Vallarta (a festival celebrating traditional Vallartan cuisine) and this year, a presentation of iconic cumbia performers La Sonora Dinamita. All taking place right on the Malecon.

“Our city’s birthday celebration is important to us because we are extremely proud of the fact that we have been able to maintain and protect the colonial heart and soul of Puerto Vallarta, while providing a world-class destination to our visitors,” said Agustin Alvarez, General Director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board. “The future at 98 looks good for Puerto Vallarta as we are seeing record numbers in visitor arrivals, hotel occupancy, cruise calls and investment in our future.”

Alvarez expressed excitement with record-breaking hotel occupancy rates for the beginning of the year as well as arrivals to the Puerto Vallarta International Airport and credited the city’s success to the work taken on by the award-winning partnership the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board maintains with the Federal, State and local governments as well as the Puerto Vallarta Convention Center, whose director, Miguel Andres Hernandez report a 38% increase con congress and 42% in incentive groups for the first half year of 2015 compared to 2016.

Short-term projects the Tourism Board will be promoting include the opening of La Isla luxury mall, a new cruise port, the remodeling of the airport and a new road connecting Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. ”
