PUERTO VALLARTA’S BOTANICAL GARDENS IN TOP 10 OF NORTH AMERICA

In March, the North American Gardens Worth Travelling rated Puerto Vallarta’s Botanical Garden in their Top 10, making it the first time a Mexican garden has made this list. Garden tourism is rapidly becoming an important segment of the international tourism market, so this should lead to an important increase in tourism to the city.

Established as a private undertaking, the Botanical Gardens are still run as a civil association, which uses volunteers for the conservation and promotion of safe observation of species. They currently house over 800 species--mostly from the Western Mexican tropics--and receive around 20,000 visitors per year.  They are working on a special orchid facility which will house a specimen of most of Mexico’s orchids.

The Botanical Gardens are located 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta, at Km. 24 on the Barra de Navidad Highway. Entrance costs $60 pesos, but is free for teachers, students, and children under 10. They are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day from January through March, and close on Mondays from April through December. For more information, contact them atinfo@vallartabotanicalgardensac.org .
