Most people arrive in Puerto Vallarta thinking that they’ve had tacos. But guess what? That hard enveloped-shaped Old El Paso taco shell, loaded up with iceberg lettuce, ground beef, cheddar cheese and sour cream isn’t really a taco… at least not a Mexican taco.
One of the most delicious discoveries that you can make while on vacation in Puerto Vallarta is finding out why tacos are a traditional Mexican food for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks! Here are some of the best taco spots in Puerto Vallarta:
Robles Birria Tacos, a popular stand located on Constitucion in Puerto Vallarta’s Old Town, serves up a slow-cooked meat stew made from beef or goat and spiced with red chiles in a Jalisco specialty known as birria tacos. If you’re not adventurous, don’t feel shy to request the beef, but if you’re up to expanding your culinary horizons, the succulent taste of goat meat will probably be a delicious surprise.
For a sit-down taco experience, don’t miss Sonora’s Meats located on Avenida Fluvial in the Hotel Zone. Originally a butcher shop serving prime cuts of beef, Sonora’s recently expanded into a taco business as well, and the excellence of their beef, including prime rib, top sirloin and New York steaks, makes for some of the most delicious tacos in town.
Also we recommend you to visit VaLaPanZa in Plaza Marina, raising the bar in taco cuisine and bringing prestige to the profession of El Taquero.
Not a meat eater? No problem. Head over to Marisma’s Fish Tacos located in the Puerto Vallarta Marina, Fluvial or in Old Town for some fast, fresh and scrumptious fish or shrimp tacos served with shredded cabbage, salsa and your choice of sauces.
