Puerto Vallarta, with an unequaled location, and surrounded by both the emerald waters of the Pacific Ocean and the impressive vegetation of the Sierra, is one of those destinations that travelers should have on their list of places to visit. The warmth of its people, its cultural richness and the most beautiful of sunsets, are just some of the many reasons that persuade one to take a trip to this idyllic port.
Puerto Vallarta was originally a small town whose existence primarily depended on mining and agriculture and later, also on fishing. Around 1930, both national and foreign tourists began to arrive feeling drawn by its tranquility and natural beauty. A media event in 1963 put Puerto Vallarta on the map as a tourist destination. John Huston filmed the “Night of the Iguana” starring Richard Burton and Ava Gardner in this location. Elizabeth Taylor, who wasn’t in the film, came with Richard Burton, as they were having a romantic affair at the time. The press arrived, and as they say, the rest is history. Puerto Vallarta since then has been among the preferred beach destinations by tourists worldwide.
