Puerto Vallarta gets all dressed up in festive colors and traditions every year to celebrate the Day of the Dead, one of Mexico's most iconic holidays. From late October to the first week of November, visitors from around the world arrive at the Friendliest City in the World to enjoy the Dia de los Muertos by the sea.

During the Day of the Dead festival, Puerto Vallarta transforms into a vibrant stage where life and death meet in harmony. The free events and special activities that are not to be missed include the second annual Recuérdame Festival, altars that are filled with marigolds, massive parades, live music, and various art exhibitions.

Take note! Activities and special events will be held in 5 de Diciembre neighborhood, along the Malecón boardwalk, and in the Romantic Zone. To help you plan your weekend, here are the best special events to celebrate the Day of the Dead in Puerto Vallarta.
Dive into the magic and mysticism of one of the most beautiful traditions of Mexico, the Day of the Dead, with Rhythms of the Night by Vallarta Adventures. Begin the evening with an enchanting sunset cruise. The sky painted in shades of gold and orange will accompany you into the mysterious jungle of Las Caletas beach, south of Puerto Vallarta.
Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by a setting that has been completely transformed in honor of the Day of the Dead. The spirits that visit us during this special time are honored with altars, marigolds and special decorations.
When the moon is high in the sky, get ready to enjoy the ALMA show. In this special Day of the Dead edition, the show remains true to its spectacular storytelling and its ability to amaze you, in a magical setting transformed for the occasion.
The second annual edition of Recuérdame (Remember Me) Festival in Puerto Vallarta will be held from October 30th to November 3rd, with free activities and events in different locations of the city. The Malecon boardwalk, Downtown Puerto Vallarta and the Romantic Zone will be the main venues for the Day of the Dead's not-to-be-missed artistic and cultural events.
Obviously, the "Tallest Calavera Catrina in the World" installation, which has held the Guinness World Record for two consecutive years, will be a highlight. The monumental Catrina will be back this year standing at over 90 feet tall. This work of art will be on display at the lighthouse esplanade on the Malecon boardwalk of Puerto Vallarta and will be accompanied by “Tito” its skeleton mascot to pay tribute to our beloved animals that have left this world.

The second annual Recuérdame Festival in Puerto Vallarta includes events such as: live music with mariachi bands and DJ sets at the Main Square, local favorite folkloric dance group Ballet Xiutla and guest performers Ballet Aguascalientes at Los Arcos del Malecon amphitheater, guided tours and new public art at 5 de Diciembre cemetery, and the Altars of the Dead exhibit at the City Hall.
On Sunday, November 2, starting at 5:00pm, there is the Day of the Dead Parade that goes through 5 de Diciembre neighborhood, El Centro and ends in the Romantic Zone. The full program of events for the second annual Recuérdame Festival is available here.
This year, Villa del Palmar Puerto Vallarta throws a lively Halloween Night on Friday, October 31st, from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm at Restaurant Sea Food Market.

Isla de Los Muertos Festival is a family event in Puerto Vallarta that includes live music, food and drink area, loteria games and face painting for children (and adults, too!) The live music line up includes some of the most popular and beloved local acts, such as Kim Archer, Sargento Dan, Eva & Mau, Yoalli Ortiz, Kimberly Grandi & Jason, Gloria Fiona and more!
Isla de Los Muertos Festival will also feature a very special version of an Altar of the Dead. The community ofrenda is possible thanks to the generosity of CMQ Premier Hospital. Anyone with a photo of their loved ones (humans or pets) can participate in this ofrenda for a donation of 500 MXN. The photo of your departed loved one will be placed on a candle and display it on the community altar at the event.
Local NGOs Vallarta Garden Club and Vallarta Cares will benefit from the proceeds of the Isla de Los Muertos Festival.

Coco Cabaret, the latest addition to Puerto Vallarta’s vibrant live theater scene, is also part of the special events with the show "Día de Muertos: Traditions of Life and Death." Beginning on November 1 and continuing every Saturday throughout the month, Sebastián Coronel and Alejandro Barrón will present a captivating performance of dance and traditional Mexican music, exploring the enduring power of love that persists beyond death and is kept alive by memory. Villa del Palmar Puerto Vallarta hosts two special nights honoring both Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. On October 31, Villa del Palmar gets festive with a special Halloween Night from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm at Restaurant Sea Food Market; a great chance to join the fun without leaving the resort.
The next day, on Saturday November 1 join the Day of the Dead celebration with a Mexican buffet, themed show, and live music in a vibrant, traditional setting, from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm at Palmar Pool.

Dia de los Muertos in Puerto Vallarta: A Celebration of Life and Tradition in Honor of the Dead
Celebrating 30 consecutive seasons, 19 of Puerto Vallarta's Art Distric major galleries are opening for the 2025-2026 Art Walk Historic Center. Collectors, art lovers and the artistic community in general are invited to attend the Art Walk openings every Wednesday 6:00pm to 10:00pm starting on October 29. Participating galleries showcase highlights from their catalog of Mexican and international artists, often offering complimentary wine and the opportunity to meet the artists. The Art Walk is free of charge and open to the general public. In addition, the proximity of the galleries makes it possible to visit several in a single afternoon and meet other art lovers.

The most famous market in Puerto Vallarta, Art & Market Marina Vallarta, is coming back for the 2025-2026 season. Art & Market Marina Vallarta is a night market with over 200 exhibitors offering a variety of 100% local products at reasonable prices. Art & Market Marina Vallarta offers shopping for all tastes: traditional handcrafts and home decor; wines, tequilas and other locally produced spirits; textiles and beachwear; as well as a variety of fresh organic produce and international cuisine to take home. The Olas Altas Farmers' Market returns to Lázaro Cárdenas Park for its seventeenth season, offering local produce, handmade goods, and delicious food. The market is a popular destination for residents and visitors alike, offering a distinctive shopping experience where over 100 local producers sell their goods directly to the public. At the Olas Altas Farmers' Market, there is availability of a variety of items, including organic foods, international cuisine, and pet products. There are vegan options among the available foods. The market also features Mexican handicrafts, textiles, fashion designs, and artwork for home décor created by talented local artists. From November 1st to the end of high season, you can find it every Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on the esplanade of Lázaro Cárdenas Park.

This Sunday, November 2, at 4:00pm, the Vallarta Symphony Orchestra will present its fall recital, titled "Ein neuer Morgen," at the American School of Puerto Vallarta in Marina Vallarta. The recital "Ein neuer Morgen" (A New Morning), conducted by Maestro Aquiles Morales, is a celebration of German Romantic music. The program will feature performances by international virtuosos Andrew Sords (violin), John Walz (cello), and sopranos Cecilia Eguiarte and Kelly Wenz. They will perform Brahms' Double Concerto, Strauss's Four Songs, Op. 27, Rusalka's Song of the Moon, and Puccini's Musetta's Waltz. Gipsy Kings by André Reyes come to Puerto Vallarta for the first time with a powerful musical show full of rhythm, soul, and gypsy heritage. Talented cellist Adrián Fuentes will be performing a series of Sunday concerts, throughout November and December. The first concert, titled "Almas y flores" (Souls and Flowers), will take place on Sunday, November 2, at 5:00 p.m. during the Day of the Dead celebrations in Puerto Vallarta. The program features a variety of Mexican music, including pieces by Macedonio Alcalá, Valeriano Trejo, and others, along with works by renowned composers such as Massenet, Falla, and Piazzolla.
