This Sunday, May 31, 2026, Puerto Vallarta will commemorate 108 years as a municipality and 58 years as a city.
In 1918, the Jalisco State Congress issued a decree, and on that same date, the then-precinct of Las Peñas was elevated to the status of a municipality. Its name was changed to Puerto Vallarta. Fifty years later, once the destination had developed a robust infrastructure and air and land connections, it was designated the City of Puerto Vallarta.
To honor these momentous occasions, the City of Puerto Vallarta is hosting a series of complimentary events from May 29 to 31 at notable venues including the Los Arcos del Malecón amphitheater, the main square, and the Malecón lighthouse esplanade.
Puerto Vallarta's 108th anniversary program will feature a variety of activities, including folk dance performances, live music, and an acrobatics show by the Mexican Air Force. The event will come to a close with a surprise musical guest at midnight on Sunday, May 31.
