One of the most spectacular tourist attractions that the Puerto Vallarta area offers is El Eden. Its very name evokes visions of paradise, and it delivers. This paradise on earth, is located just south of Puerto Vallarta, up river from Mismaloya beach. It is surrounded by the exuberant green jungle of Sierra del Cuale, a truly a spectacular sight. The river, with its refreshing natural pools and waterfalls, makes you immediately want to jump in. There are a choice of activities to be enjoyed here. Adventure and adrenaline lovers will love the 11 different ziplines as they fly above the river and the jungle for more than 3 kilometers. One can also explore the jungle in a rented 4X4. Sitting in the midst of the pools and waterfalls is El Eden Jungle Restaurant, with reasonably priced food and beverages. There is also a boutique and a massage spa.
El Eden is the location where “The Predator”, one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's most famous movies, was made, making the area even more popular. Part of the helicopter as well as a sculpture of the predator himself are still there, providing great photo opportunities.
To get to El Eden, either by car, by taxi or as part of a tour, take the road to Mismaloya for about 16 kilometers, then, a dirt road bypassing the Zoo and Mama Lucia Tequila Factory. Don’t forget to bring sun protection, bug repellent, cash, bathing suit and a towel. If you wish to have a picnic along the river, you may bring a cooler with food and drinks.
