THE MARITIME HISTORY MUSEUM OF PUERTO VALLARTA

Located at the end of the Malecon of Puerto Vallarta, right next to the outdoor theater, the Maritime History Museum of Puerto Vallartapresents the history of our country in relation with the ocean, from the conquering days all the way to the modern days.

After being used for different purposes, on November 18th of 2006 the building was established as the Maritime History Museum. Typically, there are approximately 150 visitors to this place, however, during high season, this number gets as high as 600.

The permanent collection shows in five different romos, paintings, scale models, photographies, documents, cartographies, and navigation instruments; and a number of other items that are also considered heritage with a historic a value, having remark able pieces such as the fire guns known as “mosquetón” as only one of the pieces shown is actually Mexican, located at the beginning of the hall.

In general, topics in exhibition go from expedition sand discoveries in the Southern Seas, expeditions in the Philipine Islands, the torna-viaje of the vessels of China, the journey of the vessels and the defense of the fleet. 

This exhibitionals enhances on the subject at the beginning of the settling that would eventually be known as Puerto Vallarta, as well as a brief historical recount of it, both, the organization and functions of the Mexico Navy, and the station of San Blas.

All the visitors will have the opportunity to appreciate each one of the items in the museum, that was remodeled after being the Harbor Master Office, Marine Hospital and Navy Comand Headquarters.

Gastronomy could not possibly be left outside, in the upper level you will be able to find a cafeteria with delicious specialties to enjoy the tour.

Please keep in mind the Maritime History Museum of Puerto Vallarta opens from Tuesday to Friday from 9:30am to 7:30pm. Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am to 2:00pm and from 3:00pm to 7:30pm.
