Puerto Vallarta’s beauty leaps out at you in every place you visit. You can prove this by visiting Mismaloya, a beach located 13 km south of Puerto Vallarta, at the cove of the same name. Mismaloya is easily accessible by land on road 200, which goes from Puerto Vallarta to Manzanillo. You can grab a cab or take a city bus on route to Mismaloya and Boca de Tomatlán. It is a 30 minute ride, which is very pleasant and scenic, since the road runs parallel to the shore and affords spectacular views of both the sea and the mountain.
Mismaloya is a rather small beach, limited by the dimensions of the cove itself, which is bordered by reefs. However, despite not being quite extensive, Mismaloya is full of attractions.
Maybe the name rings a bell, because it is here where it all started. Mismaloya was the place that filmmaker John Huston choose as location for its film “The Night of the Iguana”, the movie that brought Puerto Vallarta under the limelight. Today it is still possible to visit the remains of the set, which was built on a rocky peninsula on the southern side of the cove.
A brook flows into the Mismaloya cove, allowing the opportunity to bathe in fresh water as well.
Mismaloya is the setting of a fishing village, and many of the fishermen have diversified their activity towards tourism. It is possible to find a boat, of the kind known as panga, to take a ride to nearby attractions, such as the famous Mismaloya Arches, and the hidden beaches further south.
On the water shore, you can find typical restaurants offering delicious seafood. It is a real treat to sit comfortably in the view of the ocean while tasting seafood specialties accompanied by refreshing beverages.
On the beach, besides swimming and playing on the sand, you can find vendors of fresh coconuts, ceviche, T-shirts, hats, sunglasses, souvenirs and a host of other things.
For its history and all its attractions, Mismaloya is a beautiful place you must visit while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta. Discoverother gorgeous beaches you will also love.
