The Arches is a rocky formation that stands out of the water in front of the Mismaloya cove. Natural erosion has created impressive arches under which you can cross on a boat, swim or snorkel. The Arches is a beautiful wild life sanctuary.
This is a marvel worth discovering! In Las Juntas y Los Veranos, the botanical gardens exhibit an great collection of plants that are endemic to the region, as well as other exotic species. It also focuses on preserving species of orchids, which can be admired in all their splendor. The gardens are also a great spot for bird watching.
In the southern part of town is the zone known as Conchas Chinas, and the beach of the same name. A cozy beach with golden sand that invites to be enjoyed while sunbathing, and emerald waters that are a delight for swimming or snorkeling.
On the south side of Banderas Bay, a little further than Boca de Tomatlan, Colomitos beach is a well kept secret on which undoubtedly you don’t want to miss out. Swim, snorkel, kayak or work on your suntan on the soothing sand.
Within the city, near the Maritime Terminal, the natural protected area of El Salado is found. The only salt water estuary in the bay, it is home to both marine wildlife and birds living in the mangrove patches. It is open to the public and can be toured aboard a boat. There are bird watching platforms.
Up the road by the Mismaloya River, you get to El Eden, a place that became famous for being the set of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Predator movie. There are some small natural waterfalls and you can swim in the river. There are also zip lines.
On the south coast of the Bay, Playa Caballo (Horse Beach) is a beautiful spot by the ocean, bordered by the exuberant tropical jungle. It is ideal for snorkeling, swimming, sunbathing while enjoying beauty of the place.
Yelapa is a place accessible only by sea, and it has been a haven for those who want to get away from it all and enjoy the quiet of a fishermen’s village and the closeness with nature. Come discover it!
South of Puerto Vallarta, on the road to Manzanillo, Las Juntas y Los Veranos is located, a village on the impressive Los Horcones river. Among its attractions are tequila distilleries, restaurants and a zip line tour.
